Já pensou em abastecer o seu carro comágua e ter autonomia de 1 600 km? A empresa israelense Phinergy criou uma tecnologia para carros elétricos que permite que esse sonho se torne realidade. Trata-se de uma bateria equipada com placas de alumínio. Com o abastecimento de água destilada, ela passa por um processo químico capaz de produzir o combustível final, o óxido de alumínio hidratado. A equação química é de quatro átomos de alumínio para três moléculas de oxigênio e seis de água.

De acordo com o CEO da Phinergy, Aviv Tzidon, cada placa de alumínio pode fornecer a energia necessária para percorrer 36 km. A bateria instalada no carro de teste, um Citroën C-zero, possui 50 placas desse tipo. O peso do conjunto é de apenas 25 kg. A tecnologia chega a ser dez vezes mais eficiente que uma bateria de íons de litio, que oferece a autonomia de 160 km, como demonstrou o ensaio com o C-zero abastecido com água destilada. A previsão é de que o dispositivo esteja disponível comercialmente em 2017.
